Guardia Nueva is a musical cornucopia – a large pops and tango orchestra bursting with thunderous power yet rife with artistic sensitivity; a group of captivating, talented young musicians under the direction of their spirited conductor, Raimo Vertainen, an authentic M.U.S.I.K.A.N.T. *
The story, which began in 2001, is still in full swing, yet the repertoire has grown – from Argentinean tango to Finnish popular music, electronic tango, church and Christmas music. Behind it all is the same force: the diverse, delicate, powerful diamond of an orchestra, Guardia Nueva. This is an orchestra that cannot only be heard. It must be experienced.
Arja Koriseva has been one of the music world’s most beloved stars for more than 20 years. The captivating tango queen has had a remarkable career within the Finnish music, television and theater world, and has under her belt 14 CDs, countless concerts, a long list of hit tunes and unforgettable performances in numerous musicals.
With his velvet voice, Tomi Metsäketto has taken part in a wide range of musical projects throughout his career. By the 1980s he had already performed at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and as a boy soloist at Finland’s National Opera, not to mention in various roles in the Cantores Minores choir. Metsäketto is especially known for his interpretations of moving Italian songs and melodies and major musical roles in classics such as Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, Me and My Girl and Odysseus.
Singer Sami Heinonen of Kokkola has, during the last 20 years, taken part in various music projects. Among the more recent is Tangomarkkinat, where he reached the finals.
