Founded in Gothenburg in 1997, the band’s first CD ”Lars Karlsson Band” was released in 1998 and included the song ”Pizza-Shuffle,” which after three weeks topped the Swedish charts – the first time an instrumental accordion song had ever done so. In June 2002 the band released the CD “2002,” whose track “Vandringsvisa” also topped the charts.
The band has featured in various different television productions and has toured in several countries, including in Norway, Denmark, Austria, Spain and the USA. The band stands out for a genre-crossing musical style that is executed in brilliant performances packed with power and feeling.
The band’s namesake, Lars Karlsson, is considered one of the Nordic countries’ foremost accordion players. In 1993, he won in the senior class of the Nordic Championship in accordion and in 2001 was named “Accordionist of the Year.” That same year Karlsson received a prestigious SKAP grant for his creative work with, among others, Alice Babs and Björn Ulvaeus.
In addition to the band’s full-length records, it released the single ”Shaggae” in 2014. In 2017 the band celebrates its 20th year and is preparing to release a new CD.
The concert will open with a performance by musicians from the Jakobstadnejdens Musikinstitut accordion orchestra, led by Mia Willnäs.
